Kuba Cloth - Shoowa Tribe - Early 20th century

Embroidered in shdes from dark brown through caramel to cream with squares the edges bound with the backing cloth.

21 in; 54 cm but not quite square. The bottom is a little curvy.

Chinese Painted Export Silk - 1770s

Each long length has three large bouquets of flowers tied with blue ribbons, including roses, lillies, pinks (carnations), chrysanthums, harebells and others, hand painted in a polyhrome palette of shades of pink, blue, white and green, 20 in; 50 cm high, between three rows of two similar smaller bouquets 12in; 30 cm high, all on a rich clotted cream silk taffeta ground.

Ottoman Hanging - 19th century

The large central tughra motif worked in thick silk wire, surrounded by lappets contianing silver flowers and probably faux caligraphy, the spandrels with circles containing tughra motifs surrounded by moons and stars, floral sprays, the deep border with with cartouches similarly filled, all using apricot, pale blue and cream sateen, lined with cotton.

Ramoneur Child's Bonnet - 18th century

The dark brown ground (Ramoneur) with exotic foliage in mauve, ochre, bue, pink and green, edged with black and white woven braid, lined with black and white striped cotton.

Bustier - c 1910

Embroidered with pale blue flowers amonst green and pale yellow leaves, the flowers studded with cut steel beads, all outlined in gold couched thread, on a natural cotton ground. all boned, the back two side with eyelet holes for fastening.

25 in; 64 cm at top; 19 in; 50 cm at bottom.

Italian Girl's Straw Shoes - mid-1860s

A pair of woven and plaited straw shoes for a young girl, each with three bands of plaited straw, alternating with open-work straw, a small straw work motifs and pink looped silk ribbons to the tongue, a circular repeating pattern to the top edge, lined in coral silk, the leather straight soles inked with 32.

Spitalfields Brocade Gold - c 1750

The apricot gold silk tafetta ground brocaded with small bunches of roses in shades of pink and puce with green leaves, on a striped ground, the stripes in almost silver, the background woven with small flowers on a trailing meander.

Spitalfields Apricot/Gold - 1760-70

With small bunches of flowers alternating in pink/red and pinky rust,apricot, laying on a ivory striped ground with two different bands of stripes, a gold flower and leaf meander between the bunches.

Printed Bonnet Ribbon - c 1840

The gold yellow ground of moiré silk hand block printed with sprays of a large rose, rosebuds and small blue bell type flowers and green leaves, each alternating in direction, surrounded by small sprays.

A Dutch Cape - c 1750

The central hand block design of sketchly drawn trees and meandering stems with small flowers, between larger flowerheads, the border with a deep band of coconut palms laden with fruit, large slanting flowers, a rocky ground along the border design, the puce coloured stems with red and puce flowers, on a white linen and cotton ground.

A wide collar band with very full skirt, one seam join from top to hem and another vertical join seam on one half of the cape.

Neck to hem 35 in; 90 cm

The circumference 11 ft 10 in; 3.50 cm

10 in; 27cm repeat.

Croatian Waistcoat - Late 19th/early 20th century

Of extremely thick indigo wool applied with very thick scarlet wool borders, back panels and hems, embroidered in thick wools and with loose silk skeins , the emphasis on the back, using yellow, green, white.

Rare Norwich Calimanco - 18th century

Three double stripes of bright green, yellow and brown, alternating with pale grey/blue, mid and lighter blue.

the central rectangle with a crown above HC and VF below ANNO 1855, surrounded by darning work crosses in a variety of stiches, using mid green and brown, cream, pale blue and red silks, on a natural cotton ground.

The vermillion silk ground with banana and light mauve, light and dark grey trees and hillsides, the edges hand rolled.

Horrockses/Alasdair Morton - 1952

The mid blue cotton printed with a variety of shapes, each with yellow centred flowers, red sketched petals on white.

The sundress with square neck, wide straps with a tuck at the top of the dress from arm socket to arm socket, front opening with six buttons, gathered skirt with fabric belt.

The slightly tapering short bolero with square neck, four front buttons, shjort sleeves with inserts below.

Shoulder to hem approximately 43 in; 1.09 m.

Waist approxately 26; 67 cm; Bust 34 in; 87 cm.

English Open Robe - 1770s

Of blue and cream brocade, the ice blue stripes woven with small flower sprays, the cream stripes with leaves or ribbon effect, the deep scooped neck with a simple original cord tie, five hand embroidered eyelet holes to each side of the bodice, edged with a narrow tiny box pleated trim with scalloped edges, elbow length sleeves, pleated trimming applied to the front skirts, the pleated back flowing from centre back into the skirt, the bodice lined in linen.

Bust area 30 in; 76 cm

Hem circumference 7ft 7 in; 2.33.

The skirt made up of three full widths (pink selvedges) and two half widths.

Diana Low Scarf - Late 1930s

of triangular shape, the natural/beige cotton coloured ground hand block printed with sage green leaves printed onto a natural/beige irregular stripe, the narrow acid yellow border edged with dentil moulding type design.
