John Piper Stones of Bath - 1960

Stones of Bath . An original screen-print by Sanderson on sateen cotton, the abstract design featuring buildings in Bath in vibrant shades of green, orange, rust, brown/pink, yellow,brown taupe and black.

4ft x 4ft 1 1/2 in; 1.22 x 1.26 cm wide including selvedge with writing, which you may like to show when mounting this piece. 2 repeats.

The large flat very finely plaited straw with a shallow crown, the underside rim edged with a mid-green bias tape, crudely stitched with linen thread, the crown applied with pasted linen gauze (for strengethening).

Two small fabric circles for the crown, one of madder block printed French cotton, the other French brocade in chocolate brown with pale green and silver flowers and leaves.

A large circle of French roller printed magenta cotton with ribbons and flowers, the blue hand painted, made up of 8 pieces.

17 1/4 in; 44 cm diameter.

Two silk brocade ribbons of sea green with ivory flowers laying on fine flattened gold tinsel, picot edging.

25 1/2 and 24 in x 2 in; 66 and 64 cm x 5 cm.

There are also a group of five small pieces of the French cotton.

Persian Cloth - Mid19th century

Tightly woven with a repeating motif of botehs or pines in pink, red, green, blue, orange, black and white, the border applied with silver wrapped round a silk core braid and fringing, backed by emerald green twill weave silk.

33 x 38 in; 83 x 96 cm

The pines are 7 in; 17 cm high.

Malaysian, Kadazan Hat - Mid 20th century

Of conical shape and made from woven rattan, with three decorative panels using black and red dyed rattan, between three upright ribs caught down by black rattan, culminating with three loops to the pointed crown and red circular decoration, the lower edge intricately woven, the inside with two ochre cotton ties.

Italian Girl's Straw Shoes - mid-1860s

A pair of woven and plaited straw shoes for a young girl, each with three bands of plaited straw, alternating with open-work straw, a small straw work motifs and pink looped silk ribbons to the tongue, a circular repeating pattern to the top edge, lined in coral silk, the leather straight soles inked with 32.

Ramoneur Child's Bonnet - 18th century

The dark brown ground (Ramoneur) with exotic foliage in mauve, ochre, bue, pink and green, edged with black and white woven braid, lined with black and white striped cotton.

Italian Brocatelle - 1650-1700

A yellow silk tabby with acorns and oak leaf bordered diamonds filled with two designs of bursting pomegranates with carnations, all in yellow silk on a rich red ground.

Etruscan Vases - Red - Late 1950s

A pair of cotton curtains printed bright red with large Etruscan pots and containers, each with scenes of people, in grey, grey green, dull ochre and tan and a little black.

Large Knotted Coverlet - c 1817

Embroidered in blue cotton to the reverse of one corner AG to RMG, 1817. The centre with a basket of flowers including a tulip, dahlias and other species, surrounded by large vine and leaf meanders, all worked in couched white cotton cording with some embrodered French knots, on a linen ground, the fringing cotton.

10ft x 8ft 7 in; 3.05 x 2.60 m + fringing 2 in; 5 cm.

Spitalfields Apricot/Gold - 1760-70

With small bunches of flowers alternating in pink/red and pinky rust,apricot, laying on a ivory striped ground with two different bands of stripes, a gold flower and leaf meander between the bunches.

Misers - 1830s

Crimson knitted long misers purse with a band of Paisley motifs above a leaf border, at one end, with embroidered knops, the other end with three bands of ivory silk and a silk tassel, a centre split and two cut steel closure rings.

13 in; 33 cm plus tassel and knops.

Indian Chintz Cap - 18th century/20th century

The small cap made up of three pieces of chintz in madder, indigo, aubergine, pale blue on a cream ground, edged with a maroon and cream tape border with stars and crowns, lined in 20th century with a woven red and cream striped cotton.

Embroidered Pashmina Stole - Mid 19th century

The scarlet ground embroidered at each end with a deep border containing three elongated botehs or pines, filled with a flowering branch, surrounded by similar small flowerheads, the border with similar flowers in a meander.

Persian Naqsh-E Isfahan - Early 19th century

Designed with typical slanting rows in two widths, filled with stylised flowerheads in blue/green, terracotta ochre and light brown silks on a natural cotton ground, with one border similarly worked but with dense patches of blue green silks, all in tent stitch, lined with natural cotton.

Indian Chintz Skirt Panel - 18th century

A gently meandering thorny branch supporting clusters of large exotic flowerheads and smaller sprays of flowers, hand painted and coloured in madder, inidgo and magnesium, on a light taupe cotton ground, glazed.

Ottoline Morrell's Husbands Shoes - 19th century

The raspberry red silk grosgrain woven with metallic silver threads, the latchets tied with pink cotton ribbon ending with silver bullion tassels, the latchets, tongue and back edged with gold braid, very shallow heel, the leather sole with a white leather rand, lined in soft white leather.

Girl's Spitalfields Dress - c 1845/18th century silk

The bodice with scoop neck, pointed and front applied with three rouleau edged decorative panels, full puff sleeves with tight pleating to the shoulder, wide pleated skirt, back opening with two sets of eyelet holes, ready for lacing.

The off ivory silk woven with large sprays of flowers and leafy tendrils in shades of green, yellow, pink, soft orange and brown, the background woven with self coloured pattern of small leaf meander and short dashes.

Leek Embroidery Society - 1880s

Embroidered with diagonal sprays of flowers in red, ivory and pink with bronze leaves, between borders of small flower and leaf meanders, all on a terracotta tussore silk ground.

The Ottoman influenced design of four leafy meandering trails with narrow tulips and motifs embroidered in rich shades of maroon and pink, blues, yellow, brown, with spangles and the main flowers outlined with gold filé thread, all on a natural cotton ground.
